Obituary

Ann Maureen Bertrand, age 77 of Nisswa, MN, went to the Lord on 12/23/18 at Essentia St Joseph Hospital, Brainerd, MN. Ann was born on 11/22/41 in Fargo, ND to Veronica (McCarty) & John Grimes. The family soon after moved to Minot, ND. Ann received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Music from Minot State Teacher’s College (now Minot State University) in 1964.
She married Dennis Bertrand at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot, ND, on July 24th, 1965. They made their home in Bloomington MN, and had two children; Kathleen and John. Ann was a teacher in the Bloomington School district for 39 years. She especially loved teaching 2nd grade and directed many successful Nutcracker Suite Performances. Upon retiring, she & Dennis moved to their home on Clark Lake in Nisswa, MN. Shortly, after her retirement, she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Following successful treatment at the Mayo clinic, she was cancer free for 18 years until it reappeared as metastasized Breast Cancer on the bone.
Ann had a passion for the arts, performing with the Geritol Frolics, a senior citizen musical show, for over a decade. An active member of the Nisswa Lions, Book Club, Nisswa Women’s Club, Red Hat Society, Nisswa Garden Club and former President, her social calendar was full. As an avid gardener, she spent countless hours tending to her gardens, designing and arranging some 75 plus flower pots every summer. A home wasn’t a home without flowers!
Family meant everything to Ann. She loved to cook, bake and entertain for family and friends. Blessed by two grandsons in Bloomington, and two granddaughters in California, Ann delighted in their visits to Clark Lake and visiting them in Bloomington Minnesota, and Morgan Hill California. She loved to travel to California to see her family and visit wineries, and going to her grandsons many sporting events and music performances in Bloomington. She also enjoyed accompanying John on trips to Santa Fe and Charleston, as well as her many trips to Florida’s and Maui’s beaches.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Trudy Troutfetter.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 53 years, Dennis; daughter, Kathleen (Paul) Pascoal of Morgan Hill, CA; son, John (Pam) Bertrand of Bloomington; grandchildren, Andre Bertrand, Aedan Bertrand, Hailey Pascoal, and Amy Pascoal; brother, Bill (Terri) Grimes of Pine River; sister, Peggy Conaway Bergtold (Chuck Bergtold) of Santa Cruz, CA. Mass of Christian Burial for Ann will be held 11:00 am on Friday, December 28th, 2018 at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Nisswa with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Breast Cancer Education Association.

Dear Bertrand family. I worked with Ann for many years when she was teaching at Olson Elementary. She was so upbeat, great to talk to and a wonderful teacher. I have no doubt that she left her print on many students. Grieving is hard, God hold you all close. Jan Menk

To the Bertrand Family,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and the many friends of Ann. We can all look forward to a world without the pain and suffering of losing a precious life as promised in the Bible at Revelation 21:4 and John 5:21. May God comfort your hearts, 2 Thessalonians 2:16, 17. My deepest sympathy.

From Ecclesiastes 3
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; ...

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

When we think of mourning Ann, let us instead turn to celebrating her life. We need not let her passing sadden us, instead we should give thanks in the blessings her friendship conferred to us during her time here.

We were honored to number her among our friends at Clark Lake.

And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4
