Obituary

Delbert Clarence Schwegel, age 78, of Merrifield passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Del was born in St. Joseph, MN to William & Ida (Gilitzer) Schwegel. He grew up on the family farm. Most of his working career was in construction. He retired after 20 years of service from Potlatch in Brainerd, but his true passion was carpentry. One of his greatest joys was when he could pass these skills on to his children and grandchildren. He married Claudette Emily Brown on August 23, 1976.
Left to cherish his memory are children; Peggy Collier (Terry Campbell), Curt (Lynn) Schwegel, Tammy (David) Peck, Larry (Michelle) Schwegel, Chad (Tonya) Schwegel, Jamie (Joey) Ruikka, Amanda (Kodi) Keppers; siblings, Ida Mae Johnson and Alvina “Winnie” Pfannenstein; 30 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and previous wife Mary Lee Schwegel (Schafer).
He was preceded in death by parents, William & Ida (Gilitzer) Schwegel; wife, Claudette (Brown) Schwegel; son, John Schwegel; siblings; Andrew Schwegel, Edward Schwegel, Wilfred “Fritz” Schwegel, Rosie Hooe, Eleanore “Polly” Schulte, Catherine Litz, Ronald “Bingo” Schwegel, and Raymond "Ray" Schwegel.
Delbert enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, never missing any opportunity to be with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. No words can ever express how much he will be missed. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten and will always be with us.

Amanda, Kodi and kids. I don't have words to express my sorrow for your loss. Know you are loved. Sending all of you hugs and you are in my prayers. Your Dad was a great person. I loved teasing him. He is with your Mom and they are looking after all of their family, as always.
