Obituary for Elsie Schmierer Good

Mrs. Elsie Good of East Gull Lake, MN died on July 8, 2020 at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center. She was born on October 16, 1929 in Minot, North Dakota to John and Louise Schmierer. Her early education was in Benedict, ND, and she graduated from high school in Velva, ND. then attended Northwestern Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho for a year. Elsie married Jesse Good on September 12, 1948 in the Nazarene Church, Velva, ND. Elsie and Jesse started their marriage in the Minot, ND area. They later moved to Sebeka MN to farm and then to Federal Dam MN where they were part of Daystar Ministries at Zion Harbor and Eden Ministries in Chetek, WI. Elsie and Jesse lived in Maple Grove, MN she worked as an Office Manager and Bookkeeper. They retired to Brainerd, MN in 1997, living close to their daughter Joyce. A special thanks to the Riverside Assisted Living staff who cared for her the last 1 ½ years.
Elsie enjoyed sewing! She made many of the girls dresses as they grew up. Later, she made hundreds of aprons and pot holders, both to sell and to give away as people visited her. She had beautiful flower gardens and raised a vegetable garden for many years. The kids and grandkids all loved her dill pickles and expected them at many of the family gatherings. Elsie loved her family and instilled the love of Christ into each of them, as well as many of her friends through the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse L. Good, her daughter Phyllis Richards, her brother Elmer Schmierer, sister Alice Martin. She will be deeply missed by her brother Alvin (Carol) Schmierer, sister Mary (Colin) Brathwaite, her children James (Paula) Good, Donna (Duane) Dixon, Joyce Good, foster daughter Ruth ”Annie” Hagerman, son-in-law John Richards, her grandchildren Jennifer (Bill) Neiss, Chris (Nikki) Good, Chad (Jen) Good, Mesha (John) Torkelson, Emily Dixon, Nicholas Richards, and 13 great grandchildren.
Celebration of her Life will be on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at the Halvorson Taylor Life Event Center, 512 S. 8th Street Brainerd, MN 56401. Visitation is at 3:00 pm with service at 4:00 pm. Masks or social distancing is requested.
