Obituary for Nora Elaine Jabas

Nora Elaine Jabas, age 71, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, February 25, 2020 after a courageous three-year battle with breast cancer. She was born at home in Pequot Lakes, MN on May 14, 1948 to Louis and Vernie (Maine) Kottsachade. She was number 12 of 13 children.
Nora was a 1966 graduate of Pine River High School. She married David Jabas on August 22, 1970 in Brainerd, MN. They moved to Alexandria, MN in 1975 where they raised their two sons. Nora enjoyed reading books, loved to decorate their home for each season/holiday of the year and was a devoted flower gardener and could be found rearranging her flower beds every spring. Her friends and family would stop by just to admire her home decorations and flower gardens and she would often remind everyone that “there are no weeds in heaven.” She loved spending time with their grandchildren and attending their school activities. Nora was an active member of Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa Women’s, Nisswa Garden Club and was an avid MN Twins fan.
Nora is survived by her husband of 49 years, David; sons, Harley (Alli) and their daughters Aurora and Kensington; James (Jennifer) and their sons, Parker and Tyler; sisters, Sarah Wermter, Doris Campbell, Donna Rivard; brothers, Cecil and Bob. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; sisters, June, Grace, and Leona; brothers, Harvey, Basil, Myron and Milton.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lutheran Church of the Cross or Nisswa First Responders.

I am so saddened by Nora's passing and wish I could've given one last hug. She gave the BEST hugs! Nora lit up a room when she entered and I will forever miss her wise words of wisdom. I know Jean was waiting for her at those pearly gates and now they can solve all the "world's problems" again. My thoughts are with you as always Dave! --Amanda Halland
