I worked with Tom for many years at PG&E. He took me under his wing and brought me into the personal computing world. We ran competing bulletin boards before the internet was a thing. Most often calling in to each other’s bbs and posting. We occasionally geeked out at the electronic flea market at the local JC, often with his son in tow to tell us what we were looking at.
He was a quiet man with a very dry wit, a natural writer and a patient teacher. As an operator at the power plant, he’d most often helpfully direct me to a problem, and I would often encourage him to become a technician, but he was happy doing what he did.
I’ll miss Tom and really cherish the memories of those good times.
